The northen states message to the southern states.

Google News.

In the last couple of days, they have doubled the size of their index, and have started their own academic papers search engine. It's like a scaled down version of the Web of Science.
I missed that after I graduated. Not that I have ever had any real need to use it

Thursday's Webcomic

Websnark is very well written blog mostly about webcomics (and his novel writting). His recent snark on GPF, and why he's stopped reading it, is well worth a read.

A couple of changes in my comic bookmarks.

Garfield has been in my daily (as opposed to occasional) pile for a while now.

Piled Higher and Deeper (Phd) has now been three times a week regularly, so it's moving uyp from my weekly pile. Phd's author, Jorge Cham, has started another 3 times a week project too, which looks quite good, Jenny Jetpack. This seems to be a newspaper style (no plot arcs, gag a day) comic.

VG Cats has been added to misc on the quality of the latest comics. I may check it out more later.

Almost Perfect, the rise and fall of WordPerfect Word Processor.
An ebook (was available in dead tree format a while a ago) that tells the tale of WordPerfect, from birth to the height of it's reign. Free to get, but no redistributing.

I spotted this on Groklaw. Where they have decided to follow the Novell v. MS Antitrust case (Over Microsoft's alledged anticompetetive practices towards WordPerfect).
It's not an open source legal strugle (which is what Groklaw is supposed to be about), but they feel it is important to open source as one day they may rely on infomation garnered from this case.
